 What is a windsock?

A windsock is a conical shaped tube open on both ends. It is mounted on top of a pole and is allowed to swivel 360 degrees. The windsock is made to this design in order to allow wind to flow through it unhindered.

When the wind blows through a windsock, two main things can be noticed.
a) wind direction
b) wind speed
